bSa FL
The buildingSMART alliance FL Interest group was formed to serve as a resource and forum where individuals who share an interest in the built environment, can explore ideas of integration and innovation through technological advancements as it relates to architects, engineers, contractors, subcontractors, facility managers, maintenance managers, building owners and educators. We welcome diverse perspectives and advocate the sharing of information as it relates to our professions. We encourage membership in the buidingSMART alliance, however it is not required to attend any of our meetings or events.

Our Goals

The buildingSMART alliance FL Interest Group's goals are to share knowledge and explore new technologies, standards and business processes through Building Information Modeling (BIM) that focus on compiling comprehensive, reliable, accessible and easily exchangeable building information for anyone who needs it through the life cycle of the building.

NEWS

Thanks to everyone who attended the bSa BIMSmart Summit Event on March 29 at the Convention Center. It was great to have Deke Smith and Birgitta Foster from National bSa on-hand to answer questions and meet and mingle with our local BIM Champions and Experts.

Special thanks to Broward County Commissioner Dale Holness for his welcome address, and to Broward County and Broward Health for their presentations on how they are using BIM on local projects. Three Local Construction Professionals Join 68 Other Nationwide Graduates Of AGC’s BIM EducationProgram And Are The First To Pass The Rigorous Assessment for Building Information Modeling Certification at the AGC Florida East Coast Chapter.

West Palm Beach, FL -- Three local construction professionals received a first-ever new national accreditation in the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM), a process that relies on computer-generated models to better manage construction projects.  The professional accreditation, which is being offered by the Associated General Contractors of America, at the Florida East Coast Chapter, is the first assessment-based credential to recognize construction professionals on their ability to use the BIM process. The AGC Florida East Coast Chapter is just one of the 12 testing centers across the US that offers the testing and the only testing center in Florida.

There are 65 construction professionals who nationwide tested successfully just prior to AGC FEC becoming an approved test site to receive the new professional accreditation, the Certificate of Management-Building Information Modeling (CM-BIM).  Candidates first had to complete the BIM Education Program, a series of four courses the association developed to help construction and design professionals learn how to use BIM as a life-cycle management tool during project design and the construction process.

To date, more than 4,000 professionals across the country have entered the association’s education program.

“Building Information Modeling is truly the future for our industry, and the AGC BIM Educational and credentialing program focuses on the BIM process and how BIM can be implemented on a project and within our own organizations” said Cindy Baldwin of ACAI Associates, Inc., who is an AGC member and one of the three professionals to complete the certification process, as well as she is a local trainer who provides AGC’s BIM Training.  “Getting this credential, not only will give me a competitive advantage in the marketplace, but will also show my clients and colleagues that I am committed to BIM and the needed change to our industry that BIM represents.”

The other local professionals who received the CM-BIM certification are Alix Loiseau with ACAI Associates and Donata Williams with S&F Engineers.

Companies who have completed the educational program through Ms. Baldwin’s instruction in South Florida include:  ANF Construction, Pirtle Construction, Delta G Engineers, Coastal Construction, Moss Construction, Broward Health Systems, Pineapple Property Management, JALRW Engineering and MCM Construction.

The Weitz Company, West Construction, Hedrick Brothers, Cemex, REG Architects, Precision Fabricating, Anvil International, DFERGOS, and H&M Development are currently enrolled in the first quarter training at the Florida East Coast Chapter.
